• KING GIZZARD & THE LIZARD WIZARD - Murder Of The Universe LP
Aussie psych-rockers King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard have always been prolific but 2017 is a busy year even for them. The second of five planned records, Murder of the Universe is a sci-fi freak-out of apocalyptic proportions. A concept album about the downfall of humanity has encouraged the band’s instincts for relentless riffs, prog-rock odysseys and mystifying lyrics. Several tunes sound destined for their head-banging live shows: the frantic barrage of The Balrog, the stormy psychedelia of Digital Black and the queasy heavy metal of Vomit Coffin. The record’s cyborg soliloquy is a strange, disorientating conclusion from a band who are never short of mind-bending ideas. For their next release in a few months, they’re promising a voyage into free jazz.
