Birthing, the seventeenth studio album from Swans, was developed during their 2023-2024 tour, with most tracks refined and orchestrated in the studio, while two pieces (Red Yellow and The Merge) were created there. Alongside the recent live release Live Rope, this album marks Michael Gira's final deep dive into Swans' immersive soundscapes. The band will conclude this phase with a final tour in late 2025 before transitioning to a pared-down form, hinted at in moments on the new album. 

Birthing will be released as a triple vinyl (in a brown tri-fold chipboard sleeve with 18x24 poster and insert) and a double CD (in a brown chipboard digipack), with initial pressings of both formats featuring a bonus DVD of Swans Live 2024 (Rope) The Beggar, directed by Marco Porsia, and I Wonder If I’m Singing What You’re Thinking Me To Sing, a 2022 solo tour documentary by Christopher Nicholson.
